July has flown by, and with August underway we're trying to jam-pack our last weeks of summer. Was finding a new friend on your bucket list? If so, we have some suggestions.

Continuing our ongoing partnership with a number of area shelters, we have picked out a couple handfuls of adorable, adoptable animals. As PAWS Chicago reported in a recent news announcement, Chicago is in the midst of a kitten crisis. With kitten season in full swing, the city's pound is bursting at the seems with at-risk furry friends. The shelter is launching a Summer Kitten Adoption Challenge in response.

Scroll down to check out photos of Chicagoland cats, dogs and other pets that are currently up for adoption at a number of Chicagoland shelters.

If this slideshow doesn't satisfy your cute animal fix, be sure to check out past features linked below the gallery either by scrolling down or clicking here. Many of the previously featured animals remain homeless.
