Jeff Daniels, who plays news anchor Will McAvoy on HBO's "The Newsroom," stopped by "Chelsea Lately" (Weeknights, 11 p.m. ET on E!). There he addressed questions about whether or not his character on the show is based on a real news anchor.

Daniels admitted to guest host Dax Shepard that there is one real news anchor he and the show have a connection to.

"Brian Williams at NBC has got a great sense of humor. He sent me a note when I was there," Daniels said. "He said, ‘Come downstairs to meet a real anchor in a real newsroom or get the hell out!'"

Wouldn't it be a lot of fun to see Brian Williams play himself in some future episode of "The Newsroom." He's certainly a prominent real figure in news and entertainment, and he may well be one of the few anchors who would have the acting chops to pull it off.

"Chelsea Lately" airs every weeknight at 11 p.m. ET on E!
