Does anyone know why these so-called mascots are so completely alien? Whatever happened to using animals, birds, etc? I hope the Russians choose a bear as their mascot. I'm sick of these nondescript and hideous mascots. They aren't even cute!

The Russians already had a bear as an Olympic mascot though.

Look up the Olympic mascots.

Also, the USA had a mascot called "Sam the Eagle", so if the USA ever gets to host another Olympics, an Eagle can't be used.

Sochi has already chosen three mascots: a polar bear, a snow leopard and a bunny, so they are using a bear again. These host countries are supposed to use a local animal or human image to represent their countries. Somehow, that has changed and the Olympics are the worse for it.
