This week, we spent a lot of time focusing on the London 2012 Olympics and the the athletes' beauty secrets. Now we're taking a little break from our Olympic fever and we're looking at the week's roundup of celebrity beauty do's and don'ts. Although we spend a lot of time focusing on what celebs wear (and their wardrobe malfunctions) and makeup may not seem important, plenty of women won't leave home without it.
In a survey, two-thirds of British women said that heading to the office bare-faced caused them more stress than public speaking, going on a first date or enduring a job interview. 91 percent of women surveyed would rather cancel a first date altogether than go without makeup on. And in the U.S., women spend around $7 billion on cosmetics every year.
And that doesn't even include hair. The AP recently reported that in 1950, about seven percent of women dyed their hair. Today? 95 percent or more.
With all that beauty-obsession (and our own love of makeup) in mind, we're taking a look at This Week In Beauty. From this week forward, we'll be showcasing the best, worst and most interesting styles of hair, makeup and nails that we came across this week. Take a look, get inspired and vote for your faves!
BEST: Lucy Lui
Television actress Lucy Lui wore an edgy black dress with flower petal-shaped cut-outs to the 2012 TCA Summer Tour party on July 29th in L.A. In addition to her gorgeous dress, Lui won an A+ in our books on the beauty front. The actress went with a smoky eye and winged eyeliner, soft pink blush and nude lips with lip gloss. We love her simple yet elegant style! (Getty photo)
WORST: Meital Dohan
Israeli comedian and "Weeds" actress Meital Dohan appeared at the Viva Glam Magazine September issue celebration with a very confusing face of makeup. Dohan may have been going for an edgy look with the shorter-than-Bettie-Page bang and splash of blue eyeshadow, but we were really turned off by her lip tattoo (or whatever it is) which looked like a smudge that needed to be wiped off. BEST: Yvonne Strahovski
Sexy star Yvonne Strahovski stunned at the "Dexter" discussion panel during the Showtime portion of the 2012 summer television Critics Association Tour in Los Angeles. We love the actress's simple, 'girl next door' style went well with her athletic, body-con red dress and pulled-back 'do. Strahovski is an example of how you don't have to pile on the makeup to look sexy! (Getty photo)
WORST: Lisa Kudrow
Our beloved "Friends" actress looked less than perfect on the 2012 TCA Summer Tour party red carpet. Although we love her hair, the actress looked washed out, choosing to use a little too much foundation which tends to settle in the creases of the face (lines & wrinkles). We would have liked to see Kudrow sport a bright, spunky lip to give the actress some color and fun. (Getty photo)
BEST: Aisha Tyler
Television actress and comedian Aisha Tyler looked gorgeous at the TCA Summer Tour party red carpet. We love the star's straightened hair (brown to black ombre!) and her perfectly un-oily bangs. Tyler opted for a flirty makeup look on the red carpet, having a smoky grey eye and nude, glossy lips. Smile big Aisha, you look great! (Getty photo)
WORST: Rachel Bilson
Actress Rachel Bilson's look on the TCA red carpet was confusing to us. Bilson decided to go with a dramatic side part which created a kind of futuristic, martian 'do which really didn't work. (Getty photo)
BEST: Carrie-Anne Moss
We loved Carrie-Anne Moss's look on the red carpet on July 29th. The always ethereal actress looked classic and lovely in an outfit with hints of turquoise blue. We adore those elaborate earrings that matched her paisley top and the fact that she decided to go with simple, more natural makeup and a peachy lip. (Getty photo)
WORST: Aminat Ayinde
"America's Next Top Model" contestant Aminat Ayinde opted for a really colorful look at the Purple Party in NYC on July 30th. We weren't sure if this was a BEST or WORST because we actually love Anyinde's bright red bow and lipstick. In the end, we decided for a WORST because she wore a little too much red, which clashed with her purple dress. Next time Ayinde... (Getty photo)
