'Teacher Of The Year' Fired After Being Accused Of Sexually Abusing Boy

Christopher Bacca, a 26-year-old teacher at Windy Hill Elementary in Jacksonville, Fla., has been terminated after being accused of sexually abusing a young boy, WJXT-TV reports.

The report states Bacca, the school's reigning 2012 "teacher of the year," is accused of showering with the boy and molesting him in his home. According to the station, the board's decision will be taken into effect regardless of the legal findings.

Bacca, who was arrested on July 24, is charged with "sexual battery on a minor as well as lewd and lascivious behavior," according to WOKV-TV.

School board member W.C. Gentry told WJXT-TV that Bacca's alleged conduct is something the district need to fix immediately.

"... Obviously we can't have this situation," Gentry told the station. "We're looking at it closely and we expect to have a report the week after next."

“What we’ve seen as a result of it is that while he was a good teacher, he certainly had a dark side to him,” school board member Tommy Hazouri told the station. “What happened was a parade of horribles that shouldn’t happen to any child,” he said.
