Matthew Perry will be back on "The Good Wife," eventually.

In an interview with Zap2It, Perry said his character was supposed to have a much bigger role, but his new NBC series "Go On" has curtailed those plans.

"They had taken a risk, which I was really grateful for," Perry said of "The Good Wife" producers. "Before 'Go On' got picked up, they had plans for it to be a much bigger character; I was going to do nine or 10 episodes, but I know I'll be able to go back and do one or two. I wish I could do both shows, but you just can't. So far, the two episodes they've given me are some of the best writing I've encountered."

Perry appeared in two episodes of "The Good Wife" as Mike Kresteva. The character famously sparred with Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) in the episode "Blue Ribbon Panel" and later announced a gubernatorial campaign against Peter Florrick (Chris Noth). Perry described the character as an "all-out bad guy."

"The fact that he was basically a sociopath, a guy who would lie to your face, was just so much fun to play," Perry told Zap2It. "I actually got that job and 'Go On' on the same day. That was a nice day."

According to Margulies, she helped Perry get "The Good Wife" gig. While on Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show, Margulies said she bumped into Perry at a Halloween party and he told her he'd love to be on "The Good Wife."

"I said, 'If you say that, I will do something about it, so are you sure?' And he said, 'Yes, I'm sure!'" Margulies said she called up producers the next day and got him the role.

Perry's new series airs a special preview on Wed., Aug. 8 on NBC after the Olympics and officially premieres on Tues., Sept. 11 at 9 p.m. ET.
