MSNBC's Thomas Roberts Planning His Wedding

MSNBC Host Getting Hitched

MSNBC host Thomas Roberts will become the first cable news anchor to marry a person of the same sex after his wedding this fall.

In an interview with the New York Observer, Roberts will wed his partner of 12 years, Patrick Abner. The Manhattan wedding will take place in front of about 150 guests in late September.

Many of Roberts' openly gay cable news colleagues — including Don Lemon and Rachel Maddow — have been in long-term relationships. But he is the first one to tie the knot.

Roberts told the paper that he is exercising like mad to get himself into wedding shape.

“I was on the treadmill for three miles this morning," he said. "I will be on it for three miles tomorrow. I had a Red Bull for lunch and I eat gum. I’m the typical groom!"

Roberts also told the Observer that he was the first cable news anchor to publicly come out. He revealed he was gay in a 2006 speech before the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.
