Olympic Medal Count 2012: Standings Table Of London Games Totals By Nation, Type Of Medal

First Posted: 08/08/2012 3:04 pm EDT   Updated: 11/07/2012 1:50 am EST

Who will really win the London Olympics?

Once athletes from around the world began winning medals at the 2012 Olympics, the counting began. While the events feature individuals like Usain Bolt of Jamaica and Lin Dan of China or teams like the women's soccer team from the United States and the men's cyclists from Great Britain, each precious medal won gets added to the total of a particular nation.

Which nation will win the most gold medals? Which nation will win the most medals overall?

CLICK HERE to see our interactive Olympic medal count map with breakdowns by nation, population and more.

Below are real-time medal standings for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Not only can you track the medals won by each country competing in London but you can see each nation's medal haul broken down by event and type of medal.

It's interesting to note that all the way through the competition, the UK HuffPo pages have always shown the medal table ranked according to gold, then silver, and then bronze -- not the 'total medals awarded' table that appears on the US HuffPo pages.

A 'total medals awarded' table implies that a country with 40 bronze medals is ahead of a country with 39 gold ones.

With a 'weighted' system, South Korea with 13 golds (for example) moves from 9th place to 5th place.

Khazakstan....greatest country in the world....all other countries are run by little girls....Khazakstan number one exporter of potassium....all other countries sell inferior potassium...

13 medals, not too bad, I eat bananas for my potassium, so that is not an issue. And lots of orange juice. Just sharin' Gee, 13 medals. They must need more and better potassium in their diets. No? I wonder where they can get it.

Why did Puerto Rico compete as a separate nation? If they want to be cut lose, let 'em go. If they want statehood, let 'em drop the silly bi-lingual education and SPEAK ENGLISH ONLY. If the PRs can do that, where was Taiwan?

First of all, thank you HuffPo for breaking this down for us! Really.

Y Entonces, chico, leh me tell you somsting. You obviously have no real understanding of our beautiful Island and deep rich multicultural history. Our long standing contributions to the culture and success of the United States, in spite of oppression and discrimination. Speak English only? In PR? Oh no Hunney, you have it so in reverse, with all due respect. Your comment has several layers of meanings. but it is America, we all have a right to speak. and disagree."If the PRs"? OK. Yo soy Borencua, Taino, y Euro. Splain enuff to you?

Por favor, visitanos, not just en San Juan, pero tambien en the Bronx. Just for example.

100% of Spanish-speaking countries in the Western hemisphere are poor. Coincidence? You be the judge. If you want to leave poverty behind, leave that language behind. You have made virtually NO contributions to America and its achievements; rather, we liberated you from Spain and, frankly, you've been on our dole ever since. You're an expense, plain and simple. I've been there and there's nothing particularly great about it in any way. Be American and speak English or be poor and speak Spanish. Stay or leave, but do one or the other.

Wow, there are a lot of sore losers posting here. As if you were the ones actually competing. Why is it that Americans are the only people not allowed be proud of where they are from? Why shouldn't we be proud of our athletes and how they performed?
And quit trying to take away from the hard work of these athletes by making excuses and justifications. These athletes work hard to get to the Olympics, they all do, and they deserve better than to be trashed like this by sore losers who don't even understand the point of the Olympics.

They're not sore losers because most of them have never competed in any way. They raise their arms high into the air with their butts firmly planted on the couch, yelling, "USA... USA... USA... We beat the world... We own the world...blah blah blah." Not a one of them understand the sacrifice and dedication that all of the athletes put forth to even make it to London. Sadly, the Americans aren't alone, they're just the most vocal, to their own detriment.

I saw something the other day that a little over 40% of the medal winners were openly gay. (did those chants of 'USA USA USA' just get a little quieter?)

Congratulations, USA!

If you watch our delegation parade among other countries, something is quite distinctive. Our diversity is our success! I hope the fringes of our society will finally realize that.
