Betsey Johnson's Style Evolution: Warhol Admirer Turned Wild Fashion Designer (PHOTOS)

Posted: Updated:

Betsey Johnson once told Refinery29: "I have no regrets! I love my work. I love my life." A lot like Andy Warhol, whose underground scene she was a part of, the proud mother and grandmother doesn't allow trends to dictate her creations. And based on her wardrobe and energetic personality, it's clear that the choppy hair blonde lives and breathes this.

After launching her career in 1969 with the "Betsey Bunky Nini" New York City boutique (Edie Sedgwick was the house model), Johnson went on to produce her own funky clothing line in 1978, expanding to accessories in 2003. Since then, we've seen her don one crazy outfit after another, incorporating every color of the rainbow, animal prints and her signature bright red lip. And the spunky designer, who cites Tina Turner as her icon for being gorgeous and lively, hasn't stopped yet.

To celebrate Betsey Johnson's 70th birthday on Friday (August 10th), we're taking a look back at her style transformation over the years. In the past, she's been spotted bicycling into her birthday party wearing a frilly pink dress, so we're confident she'll be making quite the entrance.
