James David Gray Charged With Fifth DUI While Riding Lawnmower (VIDEO)

LAWN & ORDER? He Just Got His Fifth DUI -- While Riding A Lawnmower

A man who was allegedly driving drunk on a lawnmower was nabbed by the lawn arm of the law.

James David Gray, 68, of Citra, Fla., was arrested Tuesday after a deputy for the Marion County Sheriffs Dept. noticed him driving a red lawn mower south in a northbound lane, according to the Gainesville Sun.

When the deputy walked up to Gray, who makes his living mowing lawns, he noticed a cold beer already opened in the cup holder and allegedly saw that the suspect had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, according to Reuters.

The officer asked the accused to perform various field sobriety tests and said Gray admitted during questioning he was recovering from a drinking problem. He also told deputies he decided to buy an 18-pack of Natural Ice beer on his way home from cutting grass because he was depressed from monetary problems and it was hot outside, KJXT-TV reported.

Gray was taken to the Marion County Jail, where breath tests showed he had a blood alcohol level of .138 and .147, well above the .08 level at which one is presumed to be drunk to drive any kind of vehicle, be it car or lawnmower.

He was charged with a DUI, his fifth according to police records.

Gray admitted he had a drinking problem in a jailhouse interview with the Gainesville Sun. The newspaper reported he has been drinking since he was 16, can't control his habit and needs help.

"I need to get into a long rehab program," he said.
