Keira Knightley has apparently beaten out Evangeline Lilly and Felicity Jones for the female lead in "Jack Ryan," Paramount's upcoming reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise. Per THR, Knightley is currently negotiating for the role.
Earlier this month, Deadline.com reported that Knightley, Lilly and Jones were on the short list for "Jack Ryan," which stars Chris Pine as the title hero and Kenneth Branagh as the villain. Branagh will also direct the film.
The casting of Knightley isn't all that surprising, considering she's the biggest name of the three actresses. However, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star has made it known that blockbuster films aren't always her preferred means of employment.
"It comes to a point where you think, 'What kind of film can I make that will allow me to live a proper life?'" Knightley told Empire magazine. "And those tentpole movies make it difficult. You can’t complain about the attention you’re getting while still doing the films that invite the most attention. I do actually love blockbusters but that decision has a lot that comes with it that I’m not prepared to go with."
With Knightley onboard, "Jack Ryan" is close to wrapping up its major casting moves. Kevin Costner was also offered a role in the film, but it's unclear if he'll sign on.
"Jack Ryan" will start shooting next month.
