Giuliani: Rubio More Qualified Than Obama When He Ran For President

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said on CBS' "This Morning" that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was his pick for Mitt Romney's vice president.

"I kinda prefer Marco Rubio," he said Friday, adding words of praise for Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). He conceded he didn't know what Romney thought of Rubio and said he would be good for outreach to Latinos and young people.

"Marco Rubio is more qualified than President Obama was when President Obama ran for president," Giuliani said, citing his "executive experience" as speaker of the House in the Florida House of Representatives for two years.

Obama, however, had more experience in the Senate. He was elected to the Senate in 2004 while Rubio was elected in 2010. Obama had about a year less in the Illinois Senate than Rubio had in the Florida House.

"Vice presidents don't win for the president, they lose for the president," he said.

A June 19 ABC News report that Rubio was not being vetted for the spot caused an outcry among conservatives, and the campaign later said that he was being vetted.
