'Breaking Bad' Train Robbery Goes Off The Rails (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

After saving the day with "magnets!" earlier in the season, Jesse Pinkman stepped up again on the "Dead Freight" episode of "Breaking Bad" (Sun., 10 p.m. ET on AMC), masterminding a train robbery that netted the crew a whole lot of Methlyamine, a rare chemical vital to the meth-cooking process. With the warehouse too hot, Lydia -- at gunpoint -- showed the guys an opportunity to rob a train carrying "an ocean" of Methylamine. They planned to execute a perfect crime that would avoid any bloodshed, but it went off the rails at the very end.

Jesse's brainchild was to stop the train and steal the Methylamine without anyone knowing there had been a robbery. They would remove the product they needed and replace it with the same mass in water, a scheme that involved multiple hoses and a stalled truck on the tracks.

They just barely pulled off the heist. But in a dark, sad twist, the kid who was riding his dirtbike in the cold open was revealed to have accidentally witnessed the whole thing. As Jesse and Walt stared on dumbfounded, unsure of what to do, Todd, who joined the crew after warning them about a potential monitor in a cook-house, calmly pulled out his gun and shot the kid dead. The brutality of killing an innocent child was absolutely chilling, a dark moment that demonstrated the collateral damage Walt and Jesse are going to inevitably leave in their wake.

"Breaking Bad" continues Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
