People of the world: As of the Olympics closing ceremony, our lives have been officially SPICED up. Ginger, Scary, Baby, Sporty and Posh returned to the international stage to regale millions of viewers with a mashup of some of the Spice Girls' greatest hits, bedazzled taxis and a reminder of why 1997 was a great year. ('96 if you grew up in Great Britain, where the album "SPICE" came out first.)

The Spice Girls' reunion performance also got us thinking about the sage wisdom the girl group imparted in their prime. "If you wanna be my lover, you've gotta get with my friends"? Words to live by. Here are 9 other life lessons we learned from the quintet:
1. GIRL POWER!
There is a reason the group's catchphrase caught fire.
2. Safe sex is best -- because it helps "2 Become 1."
As Emma Bunton sang: "Be a little bit wiser baby, put it on, put it on." I only understood the significance of that line half a decade after I stopped listening to the Spice Girls, but as any sex educator will confirm, it's sound advice. Also, can we talk about the lone, CGI deer left on the streets of New York City at the end of that video?!
3. Always rap about your friends in alphabetical order.
They're just easier to keep track of that way. (Note: As great as the extended rap section of "Wannabe" is, you probably shouldn't yell/perform it at a party where neighbors may get grouchy. This move will get you kicked out of said party.)
4. You don't need a significant other to have fun. In the end your female friends will "always [have] each other."
And your life will be better if you break into a spontaneous choreographed dance once in awhile. Also, this video is SO GREAT. How have we not been watching this video on repeat for the last 14 years?
5. You'll have a good night if you "Zig-A-Zag-Ah."
Just slam your body down and wind it all around. How could you NOT have fun?
6. Your friends will always be there to help you get over a bad relationship.
They might even help you kidnap a significant other who's wronged you and tie him to the top of a rad car.
7. A positive attitude goes a long way ... even in the face of a Y2K apocalypse.
"All you need is positivity" -- and a few hoverboards -- and everything will turn out OK.
8. Let your outfit reflect your personality -- or at least your personaweekly .

The pigtails left no doubt as to who was Baby. Ginger rocked her red locks, Sporty was all about the track pants, Scary took pride in her animal prints, and Posh wore a lot of classic black. Their Olympic outfits were simply updated versions of their original -- albeit manufactured -- personas.
9. Your best friends can weigh in on hard decisions.
Posh always did have it tough. "The little Gucci dress or the little Gucci dress?" Luckily the other four girls were there to put it all in perspective ... and have a massive pillow fight in their patriotic tour bus.

Having spent the last couple of weeks (or however long it's been) hyperventilating over the possibility of a Spice Girls reunion, MyDaily is suddenly...
As Geri Halliwell tucks into her 40th birthday cake today, she has more than the average ginger to celebrate. Because her landmark birthday coincides with...
Guess I never knew what attracted people to their group. I didn't like them in the 90's and do not like them now. It seems really silly for women of this age to be in a group that is kind of teenie bopperish. This would be better suited for nine-year-olds.
Gizella_Davinci: Guess I never knew what attracted people to their group.
Lessons we learned, that technology can make a bad singer sound good, which makes it easy to find a group of hot girls, or guys, and create these lame pop groups for tinny bobbers. Yes, makes millions for the producers and the group, but the music is recycled crap with a simple hook. Thank God, there are those who still believe in writing real music with real instruments and have real talent.
miamiitalian: Lessons we learned, that technology can make a bad singer
The only lesson to be learned from the Spice Girls is that with the technology available, anyone, however talentless and however ordinary can become famous pop stars, earning millions of pounds for basically having been in the right place, at the right time, and with the right appearance. It's not a "music" business anymore. It's a marketing strategy.
Elrancho2: The only lesson to be learned from the Spice Girls
Ahh, Spice Girls bring so many teen-years memories.
Now that I'm an adult, yes, their music isn't really good (fun, though), they're not really good singers, but they were good models to teen girls like me back then. I was a shy kid who was scared of quite a few things. I got bullied until junior high. That "Girl Power!" actually helped me to be more confident and as a teen, I could say "No!" when someone tried to bully me, and it's always nice to hear you don't have to have a boyfriend.
Same reason why I stay quiet about today's good teen icons now even if I think their music sucks. If they're sending a good message to teens, telling them to be confident and peaceful with themselves, then let their music play.
Sophia_BD: Ahh, Spice Girls bring so many teen-years memories. Now that
All it does it remind me of how bland the whole pop scene is. Groups (sorry, they're not bands) are manufactured, everything from appearance to personality. Notice there's never any people in these groups (boy or girl groups) that aren't a walking sexual fantasy. The music is written and recorded for them. The lyrics are written for them, though they may receive a writing credit or 2. Often their vocals are processed and thus the live experience is rarely actually live.
Other than the girl power thing, is there anything special about these women in terms of talent?
