Grover Norquist, NRA Board Member, Doubts Conspiracy Theory About Obama's Second Term

Posted: Updated:

National Rifle Association board member and anti-tax zealot Grover Norquist doubts that President Barack Obama will gradually roll back gun ownership rights in his second term, despite what one of the gun lobby's top figures predicts.

On Monday's inaugural broadcast of Media Matters For America's radio show, Norquist said that Obama does not have realistic support in Congress to "do something other than be reasonable" when it comes to gun control laws.

"So if Obama was king would he go after your guns? Probably. He ain't king," Norquist told host Ari Rabin-Havt.

Norquist's on-air comments run contrary to the bold scheme floated by NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre last year at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida.

"We see the president's strategy crystal clear: get re-elected, and with no more elections to worry about, get busy dismantling and destroying our firearms freedom," LaPierre told CPAC attendees. "Erase the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights and exorcise it from the U.S. Constitution. That's their agenda."
