"Absolutely Fabulous" actress Joanna Lumley may be best known for her character Patsy's sky-high beehive hairdo, power suits and boozehound sensibilities, but the celebrity (and London Olympics torchbearer)'s beginnings may surprise you. Born in India, Lumley was often spotted in floaty kaftans made from beautifully printed fabrics.
We love how this 1968 photo below captures the former model's elegance and sense of style. While the patterned frock, matching scarf and straw hat are enticing, it is her dark-eyed look that really catches our attention. Blacked-out makeup may seem intense and gothic, but Rod Stewart's former gal used just enough deep shadow and liner to achieve a gorgeous smokey look. Would you try it out?
