'The Last Stand' Trailer: Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Roughed Up, Shoots Weapons (VIDEO)

WATCH: Arnold Gets Gritty For 'Last Stand'

Arnold Schwarzenegger's turn in "Expendables 2" didn't exactly earn rave reviews, so the scandalized former governor must be hoping "The Last Stand" can turn things around for his return to acting. In a new trailer released Thursday, Schwarzenegger is seen playing the role of a former LAPD cop who ends up playing small town sheriff on the border.

Naturally, that involves lots of gunfire, which is heralded by Schwarzenegger's declaration that this "should be a quiet weekend." But as soon the sheriff sidles up to the bar and utters that line, it's hard to think of anything other than how pained Arnold looks.

It's a truth his character acknowledges in a later scene, when he responds to the question "how are you, Sheriff?" with just one word: "old." (Note: it sounds a bit like "orange," the first time you listen.)

Regardless, the film looks like it will promise plenty of gunfights and high-speed chases, and its interesting to see modern cars and gigantic weapons against the old-school western backdrop.

He also says, very slowly: "I've seen enough blood. And death. I know what's coming."

"The Last Stand" is director Kim-ji-Woon's first English feature. Lionsgate will release the film Jan. 18, 2013. Take a look above and weigh in in the comments.
