Rachel Maddow On 'Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell': 'We Are In A Golden Age Of Comedy' (VIDEO)

WATCH: 'We Are In A Golden Age Of Comedy'

The second episode of "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell" featured Rachel Maddow, a fellow liberal and Bay Area native of Bell.

Almost as soon as she sat down, Bell couldn't help himself: "You're awesome," he told the MSNBC host, echoing the sentiments of many who are likely to tune into "Totally Biased," which prides itself on being, well, totally biased towards the left.

But as it's first and foremost a comedy show -- albeit one with a distinct point of view -- Bell asked Maddow about her comedic sensibilities. Indeed, many have noticed that Maddow is probably the most naturally funny of all the major news figures (between her and Brian Williams, what are they putting in the water at 30 Rock?), and she's much more likely to use humor as a rhetorical device than, say, Chris Matthews.

This is no coincidence. She tells Bell that she was originally brought to the national spotlight by Lizz Winstead, co-creator of "The Daily Show," who hired her to co-host "Unfiltered" on Air America (R.I.P.) alongside Winstead & Chuck D of Public Enemy.

"I feel like we are in a sort of golden age of comedy, particularly political satire as a form of comedy," Maddow said. She cited Jon Stewart and Chris Rock as two examples of comedians with political material that speak truth to power.

We highly recommend catching "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell" on FX at 11 p.m. on Thursdays, right after "Louie."
