One of the most difficult tasks for any doctor is delivering bad news to their patients. On this week's episode of "NY Med" (Tue., 10 p.m. ET on ABC), it was the patient who comforted the doctor after that news.
A 75-year old woman went under the knife to remove a cancerous tumor in her stomach. The strong woman had raised eight children as a single mother after her husband passed away decades ago, and that strength of character carried through the aftermath of this surgery.
While operating, doctors discovered she had a "string of cancer" running through her body, and there was nothing they could do.
"I told her, I was like, 'Everything’s gonna be fine. We’re gonna fix you today.' And I really believed that," her doctor told the cameras, while she was lying next to him in recovery.
Instinctively as a mother, the woman reached out to comfort him. It was a genuinely touching moment shared between the two, who'd grown close through her treatment.
