Megan Boken Murder: 2 Teens Charged In Connection With Wheaton Woman's Death

2 Teens Charged In Shooting Of Wheaton Woman

Updated story

Police on Friday charged two 18-year-olds in the murder of Wheaton native Megan Boken.

Keith V. Esters, of Bel Ridge, Mo., was charged with first-degree murder and Johnathan Terrell Perkins, 18, of St. Louis, was charged with second-degree murder in Boken's slaying, Wheaton Patch reports.

Both Esters and Parkins face further charges of armed criminal action and attempted robbery.

While Boken was laid to rest in Illinois Thursday, police arrested the two men in St. Louis, where the 23-year-old was fatally shot last weekend. St. Louis, Mo. Police Chief Dan Isom told ABC Chicago they "are confident based on the evidence that we have the killers of Megan Boken."

Isom told KSDK News Thursday that the investigation is ongoing, and police are examining whether other crimes in the area could be connected to the men.

A SWAT team entered the home of one of the suspects Thursday and recovered bags of evidence, including an item stolen in another possible crime, Fox St. Louis previously reported.

Boken, who had returned to the Chicago area since her 2011 graduation from SLU, played on the school's volleyball team from 2007 to 2010, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. While attending St. Francis High School in Wheaton, she helped lead the school's team to two state titles in 2004 and 2006, according to Patch.

On Thursday, memorial services were held simultaneously in Wheaton and at St. Louis University, where Boken was visiting for an alumni volleyball game when police previously said that they believed she was shot during a botched robbery attempt.

"The fact that we feel the sorrow is a testimony to the uniqueness and to the unsurpassable and the unrepeatable value and dignity of Megan," Rev. Daniel Hoehn said at the memorial service, according to the Chicago Tribune. Mourners gathered at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wheaton, where Boken went to grammar school, Fox Chicago reports.
