"Mies Julie," a smoldering South African stage adaptation of August Strindberg's 1888 drama "Miss Julie," won the ninth annual Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh award, to be presented Friday in Scotland.

The winner receives a fully subsidized production in New York City in January. But there is a twist this year: Logistical and scheduling complications will prevent those involved with "Mies Julie" from doing the January production. So, Ms. Tambor said, she has chosen an additional winner: "Midsummer," with music by David Greig ("The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart") and Gordon McIntyre.
