Majority Of New Jobs Pay Low Wages: Study

The New York Times:

While a majority of jobs lost during the downturn were in the middle range of wages, a majority of those added during the recovery have been low paying, according to a new report from the National Employment Law Project.

Once Obama was elected, he started spending to create more jobs. In 2010, most Americans listened to the GOP and got scared they were being taken over by a socialist. The results - a do nothing congress that refuses to let Obama be successful. After this next election, perhaps you'll give Obama 4 full years with a working senate and congress and lets us finally see for ourselves which system is better for the economy.

Too many people feel they are entitled to a job, how could the impact of globalization be catching anyone by surprise, it has been coming for decades. People need to start thinking like employers and not employees, one trait I see across the top 1%, which doesnt mean millionaires by the way, is ownership, so create something, then develop it, if that doesnt work, try something else. And cherish your families, because when it comes down to it, thats the only form of security that we are entitled to.This is seriously meant with the best intentions by the way, so I apologize if anyone is offended. However, we all need to hear reality sometimes since we've been living in an economic bubble for years, a false sense of economic security combined with a lack of personal responsibility. For example, a large section of the population actually thinks its cheaper to eat out than to buy groceries, only in America....

I think too many Americans are looking at the economy thru the wrong prism. One should view the American economy as a HUGE river, and dollars as the fish that swim in it. There is no limit on the amount of these fish one can catch, it's just a matter of baiting the hook used, accordingly.
It really is that simple. America is the greatest country in the world, because of this.

What we have right now is a situation where capitalist are setting on trillions of unutilized dollars while millions remain unemployed or underemployed; this at a time in America when the so-called business climate has never been better. What we have - in my opinion - is a strike by capital that is being carried out for the purpose of suppressing wages and keeping workers docile, compliant, and afraid. This is being driven - again in my opinion - by the lessoning of profits being made off the backs of workers in China, India, and other third world countries, who are now demanding higher wages and better benefits. In order to keep international profits at a high level, any increase in wages in one country must be met by a lowering of wages in another.

If you want to say that creating nearly five million jobs in three years after taking over an economic train-wreck created by republican policies that was shedding hundreds of thousands of jobs every month (over 800,000 in Nov. of 08 alone), is failure, you are free to do so, but, you'll sound really stupid doing it.

Lower wages for American workers is the end result of economic policies based on maximizing profits for American business. When we put all American jobs up for bid, awarded to those countries offerring the lowest labor costs and fewest regulations, simply to increase profits for the business owners, we started the race to the bottom.

Those Bain companies championed by the GOP last night, Staples, etc., are examples of how this race-to-the-bottom works. Staples and their minimum wage, minimum benefit jobs replaced mom and pop stationary stores all over the country. Sure, people could save 50 cents on their paper clips; but, many very good jobs were lost and replaced by jobs that pay less and less.

The very least we could do would be to use some of the enormous wealth created over the past 200 years to soften the blow of "global competition and the race to the bottom for laborers."

Instead, the GOP told us, you are all S.O.L.

One of the things I find incredible is the large number of people who hate the unions because they believe the unions forced businesses into bankrupcy. I suspect that the majority of businesses that went into bankrupcy during the last 10 years were small businesses that could not compete with their larger competitors, such as bookstores and record stores, and businesses that could no longer get financing because of the financial collapse.

The decline in wages is astounding. Public sector wages are dropping like a rock, or the jobs are being abolished. It won't be too long before teachers, police and other public servants will be forced to find other jobs in the private sector so they can pay their bills. Small government will not affect the rich. They will be able to obtain some of the services from private sources. Most of the public will not have that ability.

This is not surprising with the loss of manufacturing the service industry is now the hiring as the economy improves. It was something that was feared going back to the 1960's when the fear then was automation replacing factory workers and the powerful unions with machines. That time has come only automation is in Asia and the factories have moved. This is the real challenge for our politicians, not only jobs, but good jobs. This means new industry creation and making more of the new industry jobs here. Obama see's this clearly and talks about investing in those industries seed money. Romney puts his hope on Entrepreneurs who will get rich shipping the work overseas. They will develop high wealth low job creation. One the emphasis is on mass employment, the other wealth creation with employment secondary. This is the experience of his time at Bain.
