It wasn't always pretty, but Duke Johnson was stunning.
The University of Miami freshman running back helped the Hurricanes to a hard-won 41-32 season opening win over conference foe Boston College, breaking two long touchdowns of 54 and 56 yards and racking up 135 yards on just 7 carries. Oh, and some pretty impressive kudos:
Junior quarterback Stephen Morris threw for 207 yards and a touchdown after the team's fitful start saw a pass intercepted after it bounced off UM receiver Rashawn Johnson. But the Canes rallied after falling down 14-0 in the opening minutes, scoring 21 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters before allowing a late Eagles touchdown.
The defense, however, wasn't exactly impressive: the young Canes gave up 441 passing yards, something sure to be an even bigger problem as the schedule gets tougher.
"I have a lot of concerns," said head coach Al Golden. "But we won the game and I'd love to enjoy it tonight."
