Dick Harpootlian Compares Nikki Haley To Hitler's Mistress Eva Braun [UPDATED]

Posted: Updated:

South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian compared South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) to Hitler's mistress on Wednesday, The State reports.

Harpootlian made the comments in question in addressing Haley holding a press conference in a basement studio at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C. amid the Democratic National Convention.

"She was down in the bunker a la Eva Braun," Harpootlian said, according to The State.

The South Carolina Democrat compared Haley to the Kardashians and Snooki in taking aim at the Republican governor earlier this year.

Mauldin Patch reports on harsh words Haley directed at President Barack Obama at the Tuesday press conference in Charlotte:

Haley said she found it astonishing that when Obama was asked to grade himself, he would have given himself an incomplete.

"I have a 10-year-old and a 14-year-old, I know that if they came home with a report card with an incomplete, that means they failed, unless there's summer school," Haley said. "There is no summer school."

Haley said it's an admission he didn't get the job done and that America deserves better.

Asked to grade his first term in an interview with Colorado-based station KKTV, Obama said, "You know I would say incomplete." He continued, "But what I would say is the steps that we have taken in saving the auto industry, in making sure that college is more affordable and investing in clean energy and science and technology and research, those are all the things that we are going to need to grow over the long term."

UPDATE -- 6:40 p.m. ET:

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday evening, Harpootlian said he won't be apologizing for his comments. He also continued his harsh criticism of Haley and said that he wasn't, as some have since charged, calling her a Nazi.

“Hell no. What am I apologizing for?,” he told CNN. “This is fake. Nikki Haley is feigning this. There is not a sincere bone in her body.”

“I wasn’t trying to insinuate that Nikki was a Nazi," Harpootlian continued. "I was saying that she was hanging out in an insular bunker in Charlotte when she won’t give access to the press here in South Carolina ... So she has some hurt feelings? I didn’t know she had feelings."

As CNN notes, the GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's campaign has already taken note. After hammering Democrats and the Obama campaign over the decision to remove mention of Jerusalem from the party platform -- it has since been reinserted -- Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), chair of the Romney campaign’s Jewish coalition, seized on the remark, accusing Harpootlian of "trivializing Nazism" with the "outrageous" remark.
