Note to HuffPost: The Internet =/= the World Wide Web.
I know facts are pesky things, but Sir Tim Berners-Lee is the inventor of the World Wide Web, not the father of the Internet.

Are you sure you don't have ARPANet and Internet mixed up? The government-funded ARPANet was very much the precursor of the Internet as we know it today. TCP/IP, the fundamental communications protocol of the Internet, was invented by Vinton Cerf. In 1982 the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) was standardized and the concept of a world-wide network of fully interconnected TCP/IP networks called the Internet was introduced.

Tim Berners-Lee launched the Web -- i.e. the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) -- in 1990-91. The Web is an application of the Internet. Other Internet applications include Email, BitTorrent, Skype, and Jabber. In particular, Email predates the Web nearly two decades and was arguably more important to the growth of the Internet.

What is scary is we have a climate, created by the "we must do something" crowd after 9/11, that has reduced our civil liberties and allows the government to monitor everything.

Add that to the lessening of civil discourse and people not only saying that certain people should not be allowed to express certain opinions, but saying that certain speech, often identified as "hate" speech should be suppressed and prosecuted.

Some go so far as to say that political speech from major political parties is really "hate" speech.

Between monitoring and people becoming more polarized and intollerant (all sides), are we approaching the point where we may lose our 1st Amendment rights because someone thinks you shouldn't be allowed to say certain things.

It's time to dismantle the Patriot Act, reset the FBI and police and pull them back from collecting data without a warrant.

The title says "Father of Internet", and then the article says "Father of the World Wide Web". He founded the Web, which was predated by the Internet and is a subset of the Internet.
