For many of us, our grandparents helped raise us, loved us and showed us what it takes to have a long and happy marriage.

In honor of National Grandparents Day on Sunday, HuffPost Weddings asked readers to share photos of their grandmas and grandpas on their Big Days. Click through the slideshow below to see the gorgeous pictures.

 • "My Nonna, Flavia (pictured), married my Pappa, Charles, in 1953. They met in Libya, where Flavia grew up, when Charles was serving in the Air Force. When they met -- while she gave him a pedicure in a nail salon, a customary off-duty past-time -- she only spoke Italian and he only English. But, they fell in love anyway and stayed married for nearly 52 years (plenty of time for them to each learn each other's languages!) until Charles passed away in 2005. (Flavia passed away in 2009.) I miss them every day!" Via HuffPost staff writer Natasha Burton

 • "My mother and father in-law are awesome grandparents. And still very much in love, even more-so after all of these years. Here are two pictures of them: one from their wedding day, and another from their 50th wedding anniversary (next slide) that we celebrated a couple of weeks ago. They are grandparents to 11 grand-kids. And hopefully, more in the not-so-distant future. I hope my own marriage is much like theirs and someday my husband and I will get to celebrate just like they did!" Via Kristin Daly
