"Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey got in big trouble this summer for tweeting spoilers about the medical drama's upcoming ninth season from the set. But, as he told Ellen DeGeneres, he didn't think much of it at the time.
"I was jut enthusiastic. I was like, 'This is a great image. I should shoot this,'" Dempsey said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (weekdays, syndicated). Dempsey, who plays Derek Shepherd a.k.a. McDreamy, was referring to the two pictures he tweeted of Eric Dane, who plays Mark Sloane a.k.a. McSteamy, in a hospital bed, seemingly unconscious.
"People know already because of what you did ... Clearly, he survived," DeGeneres said, referencing the plane crash in the Season 8 finale of "Grey's Anatomy," which returns Thurs., Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. ET.
"He's just napping in between takes," Dempsey joked.
DeGeneres thought that, in a similar vein, Dempsey should tweet a picture of her wearing a neck brace and an eye patch and holding some champagne. Here's what ensued:
