'Smashed' Trailer: Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Aaron Paul Get Wasted, Get Help (VIDEO)

WATCH: Aaron Paul Stars In Addiction Dramedy 'Smashed'

With "Breaking Bad" off television until sometime next year, fans will have to get their fix elsewhere. Which is at least part of the reason why "Smashed" should be their radars: The film stars Aaron Paul as an alcoholic struggling with sobriety.

The other reason to dog-ear "Smashed" -- especially if you aren't a "Breaking Bad" fan? Because Mary Elizabeth Winstead gives a breakout performance in the lead role.

In the film, Winstead plays Paul's onscreen wife, who decides to dry out after a particularly lengthy bender. Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Octavia Spencer and Mary Kay Place all star in "Smashed," which received strong reviews at Sundance in January -- particularly for Winstead. As Movieline's Jen Yamato posits, Winstead's "Smashed" role is the kind of "meaty" part that usually gets actresses Oscar nominations. In a year without a Best Actress frontrunner -- Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard are the early clubhouse leaders -- could Winstead sneak in?

Watch the trailer above and decide for yourself when "Smashed" arrives in theaters on Oct. 12.
