After a year of playing coy about their romance, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds shocked fans by tying the knot on Sept. 9 at the Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

So why did the news leave everyone's jaws on the floor?

For starters, the pair hadn't been dating that long; Reynolds split from ex-wife Scarlett Johansson just two years ago, and Johansson has been quite vocal about the difficulty she’s faced moving on.
