Mitt Romney’s decision to reaffirm rather than renounce his controversial taped comments about dependency underscores the extent to which Republicans want to frame the presidential election as a contest between “makers and takers” — as well as the risk that construct could pose to a GOP coalition that has grown increasingly dependent on older voters who rely on government aid.

They say whatever they have to say to get money for their campaigns. ALL of them do. Nothing I see on TV will make my decision for me. Go see how they voted on issues. Look at their history. Check out their accomplishments. Yes, I am one of those Independent voters. I don't vote party, so therefore I don't jump onto everything they say. You should, too. If they cut taxes to the rich, it filters down to us. Either way, we the middle class, get it.
Man, I wish I could vote myself a raise.....

Just read some of the story of bain capital and other investors that together they purchased clear channel radio (mmc). kept it a few years sold again, JP morgan involved. Now it has been bought by a firm in China Wanda movie operator, XM radio was in the deal also. Quite a few people involved Wall Street, investors maybe with romney the other night. I believe bain still has a part in it. Bain made a Profit out of site I did not see anything bain did to save a company like he claims. Looks a little strange may want to read this one!!!

This is a very interesting article. And must admit was not aware of this paranoid "tipping point" theory. Let's talk about government dependence. The rich have been able to have the government concoct a tax code that exempts them from fair participation. The rich have K street full of people with direct access to the government to arrange many things in their favor. And I seriously wonder if a study has been done regarding the number of rich retirees who have declined social security benefits.

Alexithymic Mitt was a "taker" in 1992, when BAIN was going belly-up and he quietly "mooched" for federal money for a BAIN BAIL OUT. Story is in the current issue of ROLLING STONE, article by Matt Taibbi.

And let us not forget that Mitt's mom and dad collected welfare for the first 2 years that they had moved from Mexico to the US. Makes them part of the 47%, too.

A couple of republican states have already passed state tax cuts for the wealthy and upped the taxes on the poor and more republican states are attempting to do the same.

If anyone has doubts that the republicans won't cut taxes for the wealthy and stick it to the poor and middle class, they need to take a look at what the republicans are doing at the state level.

The Social Compact in the United States is a creation of Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal and later Lyndon Johnson and the Great Society.. Originally it was created as a solution to the millions of elderly poor at a time when there was literally no safety net. It was strengthened by Johnson with medical and social plans. It is a program that strengthened the US as a growing modern society with a strong and stable middle class. We have seen this stability greatly diminish with the transfer of wealth ('redistribution' anyone?) from the large middle class to the upper 10% in the past 10-15 years in an economy that is increasingly hostile to hardworking Americans in the middle class. An economy that rewards hard work with poverty.
This is what the 2012 election is about. It is about a political owning class of Republicans that pay little in taxes and harp on about 'entitlements'. This is a watershed election.

Romney as his type have been wealthy most of their lives. it is hard for them to fathom that people need help. He is coming from an honest place based on his experiences. However, he can not be president with this type of attitude toward those less fortunate. However, please understand, he is talkign to others who feel the same way as he does.
