After a violent and emotional season premiere, "Sons of Anarchy" was in much mellower territory as the boys made their preparations to get arrested. They first had to secure their safety from Pope's guys on the inside. And Jax had one more thing on his mind.
Abruptly, he asked Tara to marry him, almost right then and there, in Nero Padilla's brothel. He didn't even bother to tell Gemma. Luckily, Gemma intercepted the marriage certificate and hand-delivered it to the happy couple. While Jax warned her to not take out her anger on Tara, Gemma was instead motherly -- as motherly as she can be -- and even gave Tara rings that she and Jax's dad wore.
She reminded her soon-to-be-daughter-in-law that only Gemma knows what Tara is going through. Remember when Tara was a doctor with a bright future in medicine ahead of her? Yeah, she may not either.
But she's embraced her new life, just as she embraced becoming Jax's "old lady" with this episode. By the end of the episode, the boys were on their way to prison. That's not the way most people would want to spend their wedding night.
