i married my husband shortly after he got back from afghanistan. i developed kidney failure while he was deployed. he was insane enuf to marry me anyways. we had my two gay best friends from cellege and friends from where i worked take pics. it was a lovely day. the groom wore a polo and i wore lillypulitzer. it was a blast. and ive been happy ever since. cant envision a more perfect day.

Get a Wedding General Manager
This is a MUST. Your General Manager’s responsibility is to take care of everything that goes on the day of the wedding (work with wedding helpers, caterer, photographer, etc). This allows you to actually enjoy the day and not have to worry about the details. Choose a GM that can take charge, is organized, and someone that you trust.

Keep it simple! My husband and I did, and I've never regretted it. We spent the money on a fun honeymoon, which was far more enjoyable than the wedding itself (I was too nervous to enjoy it).

Don't expect your wedding to be perfect. Just go with the flow and remember the most important aspect of the day is your marriage, not the wedding.

And, yes, smaller is easier. I just got married in June, and we invited 100 (more than I wanted), and only 60 made it. Closest friends and family. Things definitely went wrong, but we didn't care. Go with the flow and enjoy yourselves.

I was an Account Executive for years. I saw a LOT of couples preparing for insanely detailed, complex, expensive and MASSIVE weddings, like down to the second (literally)... But no preparation for the actual MARRIAGE.
A marriage is more than the wedding, and I feel a lot of younger people forget that.
I am no longer in that industry, so this isn't a "plug", but my advice would be to hire a planner or make use of the sites Coordinator (if there is one.) This frees you up to enjoy your own day and not have to focus on a lot of the details that can distract one from their own celebration. That, or keep it simple.

Forget about planning a wedding, think about are you ready to spend the rest of your natural life with this person, and how do you see that playing out. Focus on the many days to come and not one stupid day.
