Dumpling Recipes: Pan-Fried And Steamed (PHOTOS)

If you like to cook, you should definitely have a good dumpling recipe in your arsenal. Dumplings, known by many different names, make great appetizers -- and if you eat enough of them, you can call them dinner too. While the most common dumpling is pork-filled, these little pockets of dough can be packed with a number of savory fillings.

There are over 30 types of dumplings across the globe (and yes, ravioli is technically considered a dumpling), but what really comes to mind when dumplings are mentioned are the Eastern varieties. Whether they're Japanese Gyozas, Chinese Pot Stickers or Nepalese Momos, we can't get enough of these Asian-flavored dumplings.

Andrea Nguyen's book on dumplings is fantastic, not to mention sauce recipes. I actually never thought about making my own dumpling skins, but this book made me take the extra step towards becoming a dumpling master!

I have been obsessed with dumplings for a while now and seek out new dumpling spots in NYC whenever I can. My current favorite is Prosperity Dumplings on Clinton St on the Lower East Side. 4/$1 and they are delicious!!

I have a lovely chicken soup recipe with dumplings instead of noodles. They're stuffed with chicken, spinach and parmesan cheese.

My Mother makes a great chicken and dumplings. They aren't stuffed with anything.

I'm working on perfecting Spätzle. They're considered tiny dumplings.

Alas. Maybe someday someone will do a "gluten-free dumplings" article. Used to love making dim sum. Now, not so many options.

I'm gluten sensitive and I'm Chinese American.

You can use gluten free flour and make your own wrappers. It takes a little time but it's well worth the effort. Make out a big sheet of dough, nice and thin and cut squares out of them, as if a pie dough. You might need to practice a few times to get it just the way you like it.

I am gluten-sensitive but discovered that for some reason dumplings don't bother me, as long as I don't eat them every day. I think some dumpling wrappers are made at least partly with rice flour. I am careful to avoid the ones with MSG, that seems to be a bigger gluten culprit for me.
