UPDATE: The suspect in the shooting has been identified as Lakeside resident Daniel Robert Witczak, 30. He allegedly shot two deputies and then himself with a high-powered rifle. Both deputies are reportedly in surgery as of 6:19 p.m., according to NBC. Witczak's condition is unknown.
Two sheriff's deputies were shot in Lakeside, California just after 12:15 p.m., officials tell NBC.
Another person was injured in the shooting as well, possibly the suspect, who is in police custody.
The suspect's girlfriend spoke to NBC and alleges that she found pornographic pictures involving Witczak and her two daughters, ages 6 and 8. The woman claims that she and police set up a sting operation to buy the material for $50,000. When cops showed up to arrest Witczak, she told the station that he fired on the two deputies and then shot himself.
The woman said she'd been dating Witczak for a year. When she confronted him during the sting, he reportedly said he wanted to use the $50,000 to care for the family.
In a statement to the Washington Post, police officials said they were "hopeful and cautiously optimistic" about the shot officers' recovery.
All three were hospitalized.
Nearby residents said they heard between 12 and 18 shots fired.
