'NCIS: Los Angeles' Premiere: Things Have Not Been What They Seemed (VIDEO)

09/26/2012 08:41 am ET

"NCIS: Los Angeles" fans had to really pay attention to all the twists and turns of the season premiere as there was more going on that meets the eye with virtually every move they've made regarding The Chameleon. It all started last season when Callen shot The Chameleon and Hetty resigned.

In the season premiere, Callen got out of jail, but there were pretty clear targets on both his head and Hetty's head after everything that went down. By the end of the hour, though, it was revealed that The Chameleon wasn't dead at all. He'd been wearing a bullet-proof vest issued to him by the NCIS team. In fact, everything was part of an elaborate plot.

In the end, they wound up using The Chameleon as a trade for Callen, handing him over to Vaziri. "Checkmate," Callen said to The Chameleon, but is this the endgame? Vaziri and The Chameleon were last seen getting into Vaziri's car together. What happened next isn't clear.

Keep up with all the action of "NCIS: Los Angeles," Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
