'Grey's Anatomy' Premiere: Crash Kills One More

The plane crash is proving to be an accident that just keeps taking and taking. On the "Grey's Anatomy" season premiere, one more doctor lost their life due to the crash. The action picked up 30 days later, the length of time Mark Sloan AKA McSteamy was willing to allow himself to be kept alive artificially.

The episode was framed around that fateful day, and 5:00 p.m. That's the time the ventilator was shut off, though it was several hours later before he finally passed.

According to E!Online, series creator Shonda Rhimes was under pressure from ABC to tighten the budget, which necessitated the slew of cast departures. And while Eric Dane didn't ask to leave the show, sources say there were "very legitimate reasons" he was let go.

As for what led to him lying in that hospital bed, the next episode promises flashbacks that will fill in some of those blanks. Tune in on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC for "Grey's Anatomy."
