We can certainly appreciate an updo hairstyle that manages to keep stray wisps of hair from driving us insane throughout the day. The up, up and away styles we saw during New York Fashion Week certainly fit the bill, and they have a prim (and pretty) buttoned-up librarian quality to them.
To complement The Row's Japanese-minimalism-meets-American-luxe collection, lead hairstylist Odile Gilbert pulled models' hair back into a messy, twisted updo. Similarly, center-parted and low chignons (comprised of wrapped ponytails with the ends tucked into the elastic) balanced out the exotic beaded caftans and printed trench coats at Naeem Khan. A variation of this hairstyle was also spotted backstage at Sally Lapointe, where the bun took the form of a bow. Meanwhile, TIGI global creative director Nick Irwin went heavy on the hairspray and wax for Ann Yee's show to perfect a glossy and graphic knot. With all this inspiration, Duane Reade may want to expand the bobby pin section of the hair accessories aisle come spring.
