Earlier this year Lark Voorhies appeared in a viral clip with Yahoo correspondent Michael Yo, which had the web buzzing about the actress looking drastically different. While some speculated whether or not medication resulted in her appearance, now reports reveal that the “Saved by the Bell” star has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, according to this week’s issue of People magazine.
Voorhies’ mother, Tricia, tells the magazine that; "there are things that have traumatized her. I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life…She's trying so hard. She says she's delayed, but she's going to get there."
The 64-year-old went on to add that she believes her daughter’s mental health started to decline following her 2001 divorce to actor-producer, Miguel Coleman. To support her mother’s comments, Voorhies added that she has been reluctant to seek professional treatment due to their lack of understanding.
Now living alongside her mother in Pasadena, California, Voorhies is vying to make a comeback in Hollywood with a string of independent roles, and music among other things, including her commitment as a Jehovah’s Witness, which she revealed was interrupted due to the interview.
"It's like carrying on the interview in a hurricane," she said. "Oh no.We're alive in a major time of all-in-all prophecy … you caught me in moments of pray … I have a strong spiritual sense."
