The play that cost the Oakland Athletics their late lead in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers was nowhere near as sweet as the moniker of the man responsible: Coco Crisp.
With the Athletics nursing a tenuous 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Miguel Cabrera came to the plate with two outs and two on. A's reliever Sean Doolittle coaxed a quiet fly to shallow center off the loud bat of the Tigers' Triple Crown winner. Crisp broke in on the ball had time to get in position to make the play. But he didn't. The ball touched leather, bounced and then found itself a green seat on the outfield at Comerica Park.
Having perhaps come in too far on the play after misreading the ball, Crisp botched an awkward attempt at a basket catch. He did manage to get his glove on the ball but it bounced free. Flailing for the ball as it sat up in the air after popping out of his glove, Crisp could only watch as helplessly as A's fans as it landed on the grass. Austin Jackson and Omar Infante came around to score on the error and the Tigers grabbed a lead that they would not relinquish en route to a 2-0 series lead.

"I got a good read off the bat - it's a judgment call to catch it like that or slide, and I think I made the right decision," Crisp told reporters after the game, via the San Francisco Chronicle. "Unfortunately, I didn't make the catch. I feel like I should have, obviously. And it would have been nice to get the second-after catch, too."
After addressing the play with reporters, Crisp went a step further, sharing his feelings with his Twitter followers.
