The body of a missing graduate student was found chained to a cinder block at the bottom of the Charles River in Boston on Tuesday, according to police.
Authorities identified the corpse as Jonathan Dailey, a 23-year-old graduate student at Boston Architectural College who disappeared last week, the Boston Globe reports.
"It is far too early to make a determination as to manner of death, and reports indicating that the individual was the victim of a homicide are premature," said Jake Wark, spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney, according to ABC.
A Boston University rowing coach made the discovery at 7:25 a.m., WCVB reports. Investigators would not detail the condition of the body, but did say that it was bound by chains and weighted by a cinder block.
Daily, originally of North Carolina, was taking a semester off from his studies. He was reported missing on Oct. 5.
A notice posted online and in Boston detailed the disappearance:
Jon's computer, backpack, sleeping bag (he liked to camp), clothes, phone charges, passport, drivers license and eyeglasses were all in the apartment, and there was no sign of forced entry. Jon doesn't have a working vehicle in Boston, so he would have walked, taken a train, bus or ridden in someone else's vehicle to leave the area. Without ID or debit card, he wouldn't be able to buy an airline ticket or fly.
Investigators used dental records to identify the body.
