After seeing older guys in khakis rock to "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi during the film "Rock Of Ages," I expected the same guys singing along with the performers loud and proud at the musical.
Last night, we got a chance to see it happen for the "Rock of Ages" opening night at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Kicking off the seventh season of the Broadway In Miami series, the show has a mix of 28 rockin’ ‘80s tracks like the aforementioned "Wanted," “Here I Go Again,” and “The Final Countdown,” to name a few. I had the rare opportunity to be back stage for a sneak peek, the show load-in and stage building, and even an acoustic performance from Miami native Dominique Scott (Drew) and Universo Pereira (Stacee Jaxx) with assistance from guitarist Chis Cicchino.
And Scott wants us to make him proud.
“I’ve been traveling the country with the show for over a year. I’ve done the show about 322 times, that’s 322 different audiences with thousands at each performance… I’m looking for the craziest audience in the county and now that I am back home I’ve been telling everyone, 'That’s how we do it in Miami, 305.’ Miami better represent,” he said.
