'Breakfast At Tiffany's' On Broadway: Truman Capote's Story Adapted For The Stage (PHOTOS)

Capote's Beloved Masterpiece Heads To The Stage

The Tony Award winning playwright Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out, The Violet Hour) has adapted Truman Capote’s revered 1958 novella "Breakfast at Tiffany’s" for the stage. The play, which will have its world premiere at Broadway’s Shubert Theater this February, will star Emilia Clarke from "Game of Thrones" as Holly Golightly, a young socialite in New York. This role was famously played by Audrey Hepburn, so we're curious how this young actress will take to the role.

Casting Clarke as Golightly is no accident, however. It seems that Greenberg is interested in taking some chances with the adaptation. “The goal of this version is to return to the original setting of the novella, which is the New York of the Second World War, as well as to resume its tone -- still stylish and romantic, yes, but rougher-edged and more candid than people generally remember,” Greenberg stated in the press release.

Alan Schwartz of the Truman Capote Literary Trust expressed his enthusiasm for the production in a statement, noting that "Mr. Greenberg has beautifully translated everything that is glorious about this story and its characters to the stage."
