The "Today" show addressed its puppy-related snafu on Friday, recalling how co-host Kathie Lee Gifford dropped a young dog on its head the day before.
Lauer replayed a clip of the incident.Along with co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales and Al Roker, Lauer spoke to Gifford and her co-host Hoda Kotb over the phone.
"The puppy's ok, but I'm a wreck!" Gifford said.
"This was upsetting for you," Lauer said in an understanding tone.
"This was very upsetting for me!" Gifford said. "But I have realized what the problem was. That dog did not want to go home with Hoda." Kotb is looking to adopt a dog.
"I'm on the phone! I'm on the phone." Kotb interjected. "I was terrified for that dog when it took that kamikaze dive away from Kathie Lee."
Gifford and Kotb were also quick to point out that there was something off with the dog. He apparently reeked. "My dress smelled when I got home," Kotb said.
