Construction has begun on the Century 16 Aurora movie theater with additions to theater 9, where 12 people were killed and 58 others injured on July 20.

As first reported by the Aurora Sentinel, the plans call for turning the theater into one of Cinemark's XD ("extreme digital") theaters that feature a wall to wall, floor to ceiling screen.

Theater No. 9's seats will also be reduced from 421 seats to 360.

The building plan estimates costs at $950,000 and includes upgrades throughout and outside the theater.

It is not yet clear from the plans whether there will be a memorial to the victims, but CBS4 Denver reports that the sign "Century 16" was removed from the outside of the building at the request of the victims' families.

The theater is set to reopen in 2013.
