Cher's pain stemmed back to her childhood, leading her to the alcoholism that saw her featured on "Intervention." She'd come from a background where she didn't feel loved by her parents, and was physically abused by her father. So she tried to find solace in a fifth of vodka each day, along with prescription drugs and more.
The habit was putting Cher's relationship with her daughter Brooke in jeopardy. With her mother so deep into her alcoholism, Brooke had to step up and take care of her mother from a young age.
"Sometimes I’d help get her pajamas on, take her shoes off. I’d crawl into bed with her and make sure she could still breathe," Brooke admitted.
Even Brooke's engagement became a contentious moment. Rather than be happy for her daughter, Cher felt betrayed and abandoned by her. "I hate you," she told her.
But the family surrounded her with love at the intervention, and Cher agreed to go into treatment. She was 92-days sober when she left the treatment facility, but had relapsed by the very next day.
"Intervention" sees families and loved ones rally around someone in trouble with addiction, trying to help them find the right path. It airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on A&E.
