The son of a Wisconsin Republican state senator was beaten and put in the hospital after defending a Mitt Romney lawn sign in front of his house, his father said. on Oct. 19.

State Sen. Neil Kedzie (R-Elkhorn) said in a statement that his 22-year-old son, Sean, awoke early Oct. 19 to a noise outside his home in Whitewater and discovered someone taking the Romney lawn sign, the Daily Mail reported. Sean Kedzie ran outside and confronted two individuals.

One of the men returned the sign. Then both attacked Kedzie, according to the Daily Mail, citing Neil Kedzie's statement.

Sean was wrestled to the ground by both persons, held down by a constricting chokehold, and struck repeatedly about the face and head.

He nearly passed out from the chokehold and suffered contusions to his face and eyes. Fortunately, an alert neighbor heard the commotion, scared the individuals away, and called the police.

Sean Kedzie told the Wisconsin Reporter that he was having trouble breathing and almost passed out before being released from the chokehold. He said the assailants told him, "Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan suck" during the attack.

“Those guys don’t realize I could have been put in a coma, I could have been killed. Things have been taken to whole new level,” Sean Kedzie told the Wisconsin Reporter.

The beating comes after a series of violent incidents involving President Barack Obama's campaign offices in Colorado, along with an Obama supporter in Oklahoma saying that his neighbor threatened to kill him for having an Obama sign on his front lawn.

Last week a swastika was found painted on the window of an Obama campaign office in Conifer, Colo., along with lawn signs outside of the office being destroyed. The Conifer incident came a week after a shot was fired into the window of an Obama campaign office in Denver.

Earlier this month, Kyle Counts, a 27-year-old law student in Tulsa, Okla., said a neighbor threatened to shoot him, his girlfriend and a friend because of an Obama lawn sign in front of his house. Counts told The Huffington Post the threat followed an argument over the lawn sign and was captured on video.
