Wixom Shooter: Ballistic Evidence Links Seven Of 22 Incidents In I-96 Shootings

New Evidence In Wixom Shooter Case

Ballistic evidence has linked several bullets used in a rash of shootings that took place last week in four Michigan counties, many of which targeted motorists near Interstate 96.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told the Associated Press that testing of bullet casings or fragments found at the scene have connected seven of 22 reported incidents. He also said that while investigators haven't singled out a definitive murder weapon, evidence suggests a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun was used.

The shootings, which injured no one, took place between Oct. 16 and Oct. 18. Witnesses have described the shooter as a white male in his thirties. The vehicle involved in the shooting is said to be dark in color and similar in appearance to a Ford Mustang, Chevy Cavalier, Oldsmobile Alero or Toyota Camry.

So far, 10 incidents have been reported to the Wixom, Mich. Police, seven to the Ingham County Sheriff, two to the Oakland County Sheriff, and one each to sheriff's departments in Livingston and Shiawassee counties and to the Perry, Mich. police department.

A joint task force encompassing law enforcement officials from three counties, the Michigan state police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives (ATF) is investigating the shootings.

“Our citizens deserve a safe community," ATF Special Agent in Charge Dave McCain said in a release. "We are committed to working with our local, county, and state law enforcement partners in bringing this individual(s) to justice.”

The task force has received over 250 tips as of October 23. The ATF is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the the person or people responsible for the crime. Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $1,000 reward.

Those with information are encouraged to call 1-800-SPEAK UP.
