As officials work to accomodate the New York City's rising homelessness population, many wealthy neighborhoods have voiced their dismay over shelters opening in their neighborhoods, specifically citing safety concerns.

Some of Brooklyn's typically liberal residents are up in arms over what they believe could be a setback to the borough's progress.

This fight against the opening of shelters, however, is creating a segregated community. Are liberals hiding from those they fight to protect?
