NBA teams may not be interested in having Tracy McGrady around but hoops fans in China are apparently thrilled to have him.
As seen in the video above, the seven-time All-Star swingman was mobbed by a large crowd of fans chanting, "T-Mac! T-Mac!" upon arriving in China, a few weeks after signing a one-year contract with the Chinese Basketball Association's Qingdao Eagles.
Before leaving the U.S. and the NBA, McGrady posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, explaining his decision and thanking fans and former teammates.
As I enter this next chapter, I am excited to play for Qingdao Eagles in China. I have been to China several times in the last few years and I love the people and the country. It will be an honor to play for them.
It looks like these fans in China are loving him right back.
"It's good for Tracy," former Rockets teammate Shane Battier told Reuters. "Maybe he thinks it's the best chance to be the Tracy they all know. Maybe he just wants something new and different, which a lot of guys do after playing in the NBA for so long. China's definitely a good choice."
