Virginian Carl John Whipple Tries To Shoot Squirrel, Shoots Another Man Instead, According To Police

BUCKHALL, Va. -- A Buckhall-area man faces gun charges after police said he shot toward another man while trying to peg squirrels Thursday.

The 34-year-old Manassas man was walking his dog in the 6100 block of River Forest Drive at 5:05 p.m. when another man -- later identified by authorities as Carl John Whipple -- shot a rifle in his direction, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

Officers determined Whipple fired the rifle in an attempt to kill a squirrel and did not know the victim was nearby.

Nobody was hurt.

Whipple, 41, of 6179 River Forest Drive was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, Perok said.

He was released on his own recognizance and his court date was unavailable. ___
